Tahiti hotels is amongst the most glamourous in the world and you'll find several large hotel chains with beach resorts throughout the islands. The islands are renowned for their beautiful overwater bungalows, perched a few metres above a crystal turquoise lagoon full of colourful fish, with a glass floor or fish feeding trap and a private veranda with steps into the water. There are more than 20 resorts in Tahiti with such beautiful accommodations, some boasting over 100 overwater bungalows. However, the cheapest overwater bungalow costs over US$600 per couple per night so if you don't have that sort of money to spare, start thinking of another dream! Thankfully there is more affordable room categories at most resorts in Tahiti as well as a good network of Pensions or guesthouses for those on a budget. However, compared to the other South Pacific destinations, prices here are a lot more expensive.

Tahiti is the name given to the main island of French Polynesia but it is commonly used to refer to the entire country. The main island has some of the best and most accessible rainforest and hiking trails in the islands and is a great base for those looking for soft adventure.
Hotels on Tahiti is concentrated around the Airport and Papeete Town on the west coast.

Facing the west coast of Tahiti and a stones throw away is the tranquil holiday island of Moorea. This, along with Bora Bora, is the main tourist beach destination of French Polynesia. The island boasts the glorious twin scenic attractions of Cooks Bay and Opunohu Bay with its dramatic coastal scenery, inland hills and ancient temples.
Hotels on Moorea is most concentrated along the north west coast where there is a good mix of large resorts and smaller pensions.

Bora Bora is the jewel of French Polynesia, its signature tourism image. The lagoon island is truely spectacular with one large rugged mountainous island surrounded by a fringing reef teaming with fish and encircled by small motu islands.
Hotels on Bora Bora is found on both the main island and the fringing motu islands, although prices are at a premium staying on the motu islands. Snorkelling is exceptional and there are lots of island cruises visiting uninhabited motu for picnics. Bora Bora is a 45-minute flight from Tahiti and there at least a dozen flights each day.

The other Society Islands include Raiatea, uahine and Maupiti which are all far less commercial and offer a more authentic holiday experience. However, the further you go from the main tourist centres, the less English spoken by the resort patrons.

The other popular tourist area is the vast Tuamotu Group about an hour flight to the east of Tahiti. Although there are over 50 islands in this group, all vast low lying atoll islands, only a handful of them have tourist infrastructure. The largest of the atolls, and the second largest atoll in the world, is Rangiroa and is renowened as one of the best diving destinations in the South Pacific for marine life, natably sharks and rays. Pearl farming is its only other commercial industry. Other exeptional but less commercial diving atolls with hotels include Fakarava, Tikehau and Manihi, all connected by regular flights from Tahiti.
Hotels in the Tuamotu Group ranges from luxury small boutique resorts to pension guesthouses on the beach. Dive operators can be found throughout the islands.
